An Autumn Adventure

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have a clear diary, so when I saw through the morning darkness, a misty overcast morning, I headed down to the magical woodland of Hardcastle Crags, a National trust property in nearby, Hebden Bridge. It's a good thing to photograph in the woods when the bright sunlight isn't burning out all the lovely autumn colours.

So with my Canon EOS 5D mkIII, 24-70mm, 70-200mm lenses, tripod, cable release and flask of coffee, I was quite happy to arrive, the first car in the carpark.

I had a bit of fun along the way, so for a change, you might even spot me in these photos, for a few pro-selfies - having set the timer and run like mad into position, before stopping quickly for the long exposure to freeze-frame me. #proselfie

Anyways, onto the photography... I was well rewarded for my early arrival, when I saw this heron by the weir...

The waters here feel so calm and clear, at this slow pace, 15 seconds at f/22, ISO 100...   Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

The way these rocks and leaves sit so peacefully, as the water slides by...

These old beech trees, rocks and paths make for a stunning time out..  Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

A tree and rock combo, I had to join with... 0.8 sec at f/6.3, ISO 100...

I didn't have my wellies on, so no getting into the middle of the stream today...  Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

There's something special about these powerful, colourful and mesmerizing woodlands... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

I didn't spot any pixies, fairies or deer, so I jumped in again... 1.6 sec at f/13 ISO 100...

It always astounds me, these stepping stones stay where they are, given some of the torrential rains that fall here...

Following the autumn tinged paths, the wind here provided an interesting look... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

As the light rain started to fall, this was the closest I got to the historic Gibson Mill, since I had my own coffee! Now thinking about it, I should have gone in for cake and warmth... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

These people heading for the mill, had more sense than me... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

It's a dog-walkers paradise here, I just love the expression on the boxer's face... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

Strike a pose, there's nothing to it... zooming in on this 20MB file, the laughter on the child's face is priceless... Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

These beech leaves were just dancing in the wind, with the strength of the old trees holding firm...  Autumn woodland walk, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

Performing a little bit of magic, I had to stand still, in the wind, for two seconds and nearly managed it... Autumn woodland magic, Calderdale, West Yorkshire

So that was a pretty amazing morning, autumn is here for now, I highly recommend getting out there and doing it, this certainly was a good tonic for me.

A special thanks to the National Trust at Hardcastle Crags.
